New data suggests more work is needed to be done to Kuwaitise country’s workforce
More than half of unemployed Kuwaitis are reluctant to work in the private sector despite government efforts to Kuwaitise the workforce.
Local media, citing an official labour bulletin published this week, said that 58 percent of unemployed Kuwaitis would prefer to wait until a public sector job becomes available.
Almost 87 percent of Kuwait’s national labour force works in the public sector, according to the 2015 Labor Force Survey published by Kuwait’s Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), Kuwait Times said.
The public sector remains the most attractive employment source due to a range of factors, including shorter working hours, mostly less demanding work, public holidays, benefits and perks not always available in the private sector, the newspaper said.
Yet, unemployment among Kuwaitis reached 4.7 percent in 2015, according to the official statistics.
