6 tips to fast track your career

Quick and simple tools can make the biggest differences

6 tips to fast track your career

Ever wondered how some people you work with have been fast tracked in their career, getting promotions and pay increases whilst you remain in the same position year after year? Here are six tips from Adam Zargar (www.2bLimitless.com) that can help improve your career prospects, get you ahead of the competition and make you indispensable to your company.

1- Have a clear vision and plan: Every client who comes to coaching creates a clear roadmap or blueprint for his or her career. A pilot would not dream of taking off on a flight without coordinates and a clear plan of where and how they are going to get to where they are flying too. Focus on where you want to arrive at the pinnacle of your career as well as the small steps/targets that you must meet. Implement this plan but remember like a pilot on autopilot you still need to make minor adjustments along the way to keep on track.

2- Educate yourself: Keep educating yourself with professional development and do lots of reading. Careers are like escalators they keep going up or down, but they never stand still. Keep reading, learning and growing.

3- Network: You can get a real fast track on a job if you network in and outside of work. The more people who know your story and your strengths, the greater the chance of career progression. Sell your personality and qualities in informal and formal ways and you will create opportunities.

4- Work harder and smarter: Do everything in your control to be the best you can be and do the best you can at all times. Work smarter by chunking work, prioritising, and most importantly remove distractions. There is no replacement for hard and smart work.

5- Dream big: Work beyond your role and go as far as learning other roles within your department. By making yourself indispensible and a resource you will be growing your expert status and credibility in your field and not just within the company. Also in times of crisis you will keep your job whilst those around you lose theirs.

6- Think about solutions rather than problems:  Be the person that comes with 3-5 solutions to every problem you face. Before you share a problem with a colleague/boss go to them with 3-5 solutions that you have already thought of. In coaching we call it the porcupine solution tool. Write your problem in the porcupine and for each spike write a potential solution to it.

The most important asset is to have a white color skin to progress in career in Middle East. Two candidates with same qualifications and experience, but the one with white skin will get the job.
Thats the fact of this society and no point denying this.

I agree with Asther. White skin/western passport and wastha are the crucial elements to succeed in career esp in Middle East
