95 men fined every day for being in women's cabin on Dubai Metro

RTA issues fine of $27 for men found in the female and children only compartments

95 men fined every day for being in women's cabin on Dubai Metro

The RTA has issued fines to almost 100 men each day for being in the women and children’s compartment on Dubai Metro since the new fine was introduced last month.

Fines have been issued to a total of 4,413 male commuters between March 1 and April 15.

Capacity in the female and children only compartments was doubled last February to 30 seats and 140 standing spaces.

Despite the RTA introducing a fine of AED100 ($27) for men found in the female and children only compartments, an average of 95 male passengers have been fined on a daily basis.

Rail operations director Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb said: “The step is part of the RTA’s endeavours to maintain the privacy and comfort of women and children”.
