A lack of delivery infrastructure and online services is holding back the growth of digital media in the region, a digital media expert has told Arabian Business TV.
Digital media and marketing is rapidly growing in the Gulf but is being slowed down by lack of basic infrastructure, Ashley Friedlein, the CEO of Econsultancy, said.
“As with any emerging area there are certain challenges that are holding back the speed of growth,” he said. “The e-commerce bit is less well-developed in this region than certainly in the UK, and US, and that’s partly because the delivery infrastructure maybe isn’t quite there for home delivery,” he said.
“Online payment… is still a bit more of a challenge. In the UK, US and most of Europe its second nature to pay online; there are no concerns about fraud [and] the charges to the merchants are very low,” he added.
