Long gone are the days when stepping onto an aircraft meant you had to switch off all technology for a couple of hours and simply relax for the duration of your flight. Nowadays, business travellers as well as the internet-savvy generation are as connected as ever, with wi-fi as a basic need.

Not answering an email because you were at altitude is no longer a valid excuse, as state-of-the-art technology has made it possible for passengers to switch their phones, laptops and tablets back on after takeoff (that is if you are not currently travelling to countries with an onboard ban for devices of the sort). No matter whether you need to work, study or simply want to keep up to date on your favourite Netflix series, now you can on a large number of flights around the world as wi-fi is offered on all major airlines.

Norwegian Airlines

Free wi-fi on flights within Europe and between the Caribbean and US

Turkish Airlines

Free wi-fi for Business Class passengers and Elite and Elite Plus members of their reward program

JetBlue Airways

Free wi-fi on all aircrafts and all flights within contiguous US states

Air China

Free wi-fi on domestic flights within China, available on tablets and laptops only

China Eastern

Free wi-fi on domestic and international flights up to a data usage that sums up to the equivalent of AED16

Philippine Airlines

Free wi-fi for 30 minutes or up to 15MB of data usage

Qantas

Free wi-fi on domestic flights within Australia

Nok Air (Thailand)

Free wi-fi on only a selected number of aircrafts with limited upload speed and limited bandwidth

Emirates

Free wi-fi for the first 10MB used

Qatar Airways

Free wi-fi for the first 15 minutes
