Power technology group says orders connected to new Al Gharaffa, Gulf malls in Qatar.
Power technology group ABB has won an order to supply two new substations in Qatar, including one to power two new shopping malls in Doha.
The contract was awarded by the Ezdan Real Estate Company, one of Qatar’s biggest property developers, ABB said in a statement.
One 132/11kV substation will supply power to two new shopping centres, the Al Gharaffa and Gulf malls, being built in the Qatar capital, to serve the Gulf state’s fast-growing retail market.
The second 66/11 kV substation will serve a new residential area. The fast-track project is scheduled to be completed in around 14 months, the company added.
“These substations will enable more power to reach consumers, helping to meet increasing electricity demand and support the growing economy of the region,” said Oleg Aleinikov, head of ABB's substations business, a part of the company’s Power Systems division.
"They will also strengthen the transmission and distribution network and improve reliability of power supply.”
As part of the turnkey project, ABB will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the substations.
The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 117,000 people.
