Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) is outsourcing the running of its IT department to a private firm, in a deal which has been described as the largest of its kind within the region to date.
Abu Dhabi-based Injazat Data Systems has been awarded the decade–long contract to manage all of ADWEA’sIT needs.
As part of the agreement, 150 ADWEA IT staff will be transferred over to the Injazat team.
“We are proud to announce the largest full service IT outsourcing deal to date, in the region,” said Ahmed Ali Al-Sayegh, Injazat Data Systems’ chairman, in a statement.
“Our agreement will accelerate and reinforce the prominent business and IT leadership of ADWEA,” the statement added.
The value of the deal was not disclosed but an Injazat official told a local paper it was “significantly huge”. Ebrahim Lari, Injazat’s chief executive, also told the newspaper that the firm was in talks with other government, semi-government and private sector companies to secure more IT outsourcing contracts, with particular focus on Oman and Qatar.
Injazat was formed in February last year as a joint-venture between Mubadala Development Company and US services giant Electronic Data Systems (EDS).
Working with ADWEA through a governance structure, Injazat will provide ADWEA with a fully integrated IT managed service, comprising IT infrastructure management, application management and new project management and delivery.
The start-up will continue to work with ADWEA’s existing IT product and services suppliers, and says it will seek to finding ways of harnessing local experience and applying global industry best practice.
