A joint venture of Brazilian firm Odebrecht and Abu Dhabi-based Bin Hafeez, has beaten Cypriot contractor J&P to take the US $132 million (AED488 million) Ras Al Khor road — part of the Creek crossing project. J&P is understood to have bid $140 million.
The new road will link up with the fourth crossing, from the Al Jaddaf side of the creek, which is under construction.
“Odebrecht is handling all the concrete work on the project, which includes the concrete flyovers,” said Odebrecht director Daniel Chicahuala.
“There are 13 bridge sections, all varying in size and length. Bin Hafeez is doing the road works.”
The project will take 24 months to complete and work is expected to begin this week.
“We have started the mobilisation on the project and have already brought in about 30 engineers,” said Marcelo Jardim, CEO, Odebrecht.
“The project is not easy, as we have been given about a week to get things ready.
“Normally Dubai Municipality gives at least 30 days in which to mobilise. The schedule is not easy but we’re sure we can do it,” he said. Parsons is the consultant on the project.
