Cairo Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the biggest IT trade fair to cover Egypt, North Africa and the Levant announced that it will be running for a tenth year yesterday. The event will take place between the 5th and 8th of February 2006 at Cairo International Convention Centre, Egypt.

ICT Cairo plans to supersize for its tenth anniversary and break its previous attendance record, a target organisers Tradefairs International is comfortable with, saying 150 regional and international vendors have already confirmed that they are on board.

“ICT 2006 will take place at an important time as a new wave of liberalisation is taking place across the region, resulting in new acquisitions, mergers, licensing and competition”, says Ossama Kamal, managing director at Tradefairs International.

As usual the event will have key themes, this year concentrating on 3rd generation technology, ICT and media convergence, satellite technology, VoIP, electronic signature legislation, cashless societies, call centers and storage issues.

“The forum agenda is rich with topics on the business side, where we shall continue adopting the last round’s trend of bringing IT professionals into contact with people from other sectors, such as transport, tourism, manufacturing and others”, says Amani Ghanem, a member of the organising board. “The results of such activity last year were tremendous, with 11 ministers leading their industries into the debate with technology experts,” he added.

Cairo ICT 2006 will also actively promote regional cooperation, and the organisers have singled out Mohamed Omran, Chairman of Etisalat, as one industry leader who will be honoured at the event for his personal support and that of Etisalat to Cairo ICT since its inception in 1996.

ICT Cairo director, Sara Abodoma, predicts an increase of 25% in exhibitors in 2006. last year the conference centre expanded its exhibition areas to encompass four halls, which have been divided into domains: telecom, networks, hardware and software. A shopper area will also run, which is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors on its own.
