This was an increase from the 44 companies that closed in March, according to a survey by advisory and research company Webmergers.com.Since January 2000 at least 435 Internet companies have hit the skids, but nearly half of the closures have occurred in 2001. The Webmergers survey also revealed that buyers spent about $2.6 billion acquiring 115 companies in April, this is in comparison to the $5 billion spent on the 143 acquisitons in March.
