A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed by Dubai Municipality and the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, in order to create better coordination between the two authorities.
The MOU, which focuses on food control and veterinary services, was signed in order to provide better food safety and awareness for public health. According to the MOU, both departments will work to coordinate — as much as possible — food control procedures for foodstuff that are imported through various border points in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Alongside this, the two departments will also integrate laboratory tests on food items in line with approved international standards.
The agreement, which will see the unification and development of quarantine rules, also aims to achieve several objectives, including the protection of public health by ensuring food safety and animal welfare. It also seeks to control the health risks resulting from lack of food safety and animal diseases
