UAE residents are set to enjoy another public holiday as Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha approach in June, following the recent Eid Al Fitr long weekend.
Eid Al Adha, meaning ‘festival of the sacrifice’, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test of faith from God. The holiday serves as a time for gathering with family and friends while reflecting on faith.
However, officials will confirm the exact dates through Moon sightings closer to the time, as with previous Islamic holidays.
When will the UAE mark Eid Al Adha 2025?
Arafat Day, which marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage, falls on Dhu Al Hijja 9 in the Islamic calendar and is expected to correspond with June 5 this year.
Eid Al Adha will follow directly after, running from June 6 to June 8 (Dhu Al Hijja 10 to 12).
Both public and private sector employees will benefit from the holiday.
If predictions prove correct, workers will receive a four-day weekend from Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8, returning to work on Monday, June 9.
During this period, families typically have a goat or sheep butchered at an abattoir, sharing the meat between themselves, relatives and those in need.
The holiday coincides with Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Makkah that Muslims must undertake at least once if able.
Many pilgrims also visit Madinah during their journey. Hajj represents one of the five pillars of Islam and holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide.
