Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has launched a digital ID for expat families living in the Kingdom.

The new service will do away with paper ID and allow users to digitally identify family members.

Any time photo ID of family members is required by security officials in the Saudi Arabia it can now be presented on a smart phone and paper identification is no longer needed.

To access the service Jawazat advises logging on through the Ministry of Interior’s Absher platform.

In a tweet Jawazat said: “The digital document service via the Absher platform allows you to display the digital resident identity of your family members.”

Officials from Jawazat confirmed that expats could use digital photos of family members anywhere in the country to verify ID and that paper identification would no longer be required.

Jawazat is modernising services to give Saudi residents a world-class service. Through the Absher platform it aims to be more efficient and reduce the number of visits to headquarters or branch offices.

At the Absher Forum 2022, Jawazat launched several new e-services for citizens and expats.

Last month Saudi Arabia announced a new phase of issuing e-passport in the country, with the opening up of an online passport facility to citizens aged 21 and above.

The new category of eligible applicants can now use Absher for renewing their passports.
