Security vendor Sonicwall has strengthened its executive team, appointing John DiLullo as its VP worldwide sales. DiLullo brings a wealth of channel experience to his new role, having previously served as VP channels, worldwide distribution at networking giant Cisco.

“I am extremely pleased that John DiLullo has joined our management team,” said Matthew Medeiros, president and CEO at Sonicwall. “He brings to Sonicwall an impressive background in international sales, experience with multi-billion dollar companies, and an excellent reputation with the channel. John is a seasoned executive whose leadership capabilities will help Sonicwall on its accelerated growth path.”

Sonicwall is hoping that DiLullo’s international sales experience will help the vendor to accelerate its growth rates outside North America. At present, just 30% of Sonicwall’s sales are made to international customers, compared to an industry average of between 40% and 45%, according to Medeiros.

DiLullo added: “Sonicwall’s strategy and product set are extremely well positioned to meet the needs of its customers and the channel partners that support them. The company has a strong executive team, an outstanding reputation with its channel, and an advanced product line, which has been enhanced by its recent acquisitions of Lasso Logic and enKoo. I look forward to helping Sonicwall achieve its goals of moving to the next level.”

DiLullo’s CV includes 15 years of experience in sales management roles at leading technology companies including GE, Lucent and Cisco. Earlier in his career, DiLullo serves in sales positions in companies such as Isoetec and SRX, before joining Octel prior to its acquisition by Lucent. DiLullo holds two US patents based on his engineering work in signal processing.

Sonicwall has worked hard to build up its channel in the Middle East and Africa, signing up a number of new resellers in recent months and in negotiations to add even more. Current partners include Galaxy Informatique of Algeria, Data Communications from Mauritius, Ardico and Globesoft, both based in Saudi Arabia, and GEAP Technologies of the UAE. Sonicwall is also in negotiations with Global Brands of Egypt, Jocom from Jordan, Marimba Computer in the UAE and Technology Stars of Yemen.

Sonicwall bills itself as a provider of integrated network security, mobility and productivity solutions for the SMB, enterprise, e-commerce, education, healthcare, retail and government sectors. NASDAQ-quoted Sonicwall posted sales of US$131m for the year ending September 2005 and currently has a market capitalisation of US$497m.
