The UAE has begun fining firms that do not meet Emiratisation targets, says the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
The move is in line with the government’s Nafis initiative.
UAE fines for neglecting Emirati recruits
In a message on social media on Friday the MoHRE said: “In line with the UAE Cabinet Resolution to raise Emiratisation rates, #MoHRE started applying financial contributions to private sector companies for failing to achieve the 2% Emiratisation targets stipulated for 2022, to reach 10% by the end of 2026.”
Firms that fail to meet the targets will be fined at a rate of AED6,000 a month or AED72,000 a year. The fine will be paid in a single instalment.
Firms that meet the targets, however, will receive benefits including discounted MoHRE fees.
As per the Nafis initiative, the UAE aims to ensure that 10 percent of the private sector firms are made up of Emiratis by 2026.
The Nafis initiative offers various benefits including the Emirati Salary Support Scheme where citizens will be offered a one-year salary support of up to AED8,000 per month during training and a monthly support of up to AED5,000 will be paid for up to five years for university graduates.
