WADE Adams Contracting has won the $108 million (AED 400 million) contract to build the infrastructure for Dubai Sports City — thought to be one of the largest single infrastructure contracts ever awarded in the UAE.
It comes six months after the contractor also picked up the advanced grading works contract on the $544 million Sports City project.
The massive project covers 4.7 million m2 in Dubailand, and will include the construction of Victory Heights, a private residential gated golf community.
Top golfer Ernie Els visited the site this week on the eve of the Dubai Desert Classic.
Els is a consultant on the Dunes, which is part of Victory Heights and is his first golf course in the Middle East.
The contract covers the installation of 50 km of roads, 70.5 km of potable water piping, 120 km of telecommunications multiple ducts, 54 km of sewerage mains, 29 km of storm water drainage, 87 km of electrical cable and 41.5 km of irrigation ducts.
Khalid Al Zarooni, president of Dubai Sports City, said that this was the one of the largest ever contracts awarded by a private sector company in Dubai.
“We appointed Wade Adams as the key contractor for a number of reasons — not only do they boast an impressive and successful track record, having worked on a number of prestigious developments in the Middle East — but they also work to the highest standards of efficiency, quality and safety.”
Work is set to get under way this week, and will involve a labour force of 1500 workers.
In addition to Victory Heights Golf Course, Dubai Sports City will include four major stadiums ranging in capacity from 10 000 to 60 000.
