Prosecution Office says justice will run its course, regardless of any external factors.
An investigation into a video purportedly showing Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, mistreating an Afghan merchant, is still ongoing, WAM news agency confirmed on Monday. In an issued statement an official from the Abu Dhabi Prosecution Office said it is ''currently carrying out its investigation and engaging with those involved in the case in order to reach a clear understanding of all pertinent aspects and circumstances, and to ensure that justice is served according to the rule of law.''
The offical also said that the lawyer representing Sheikh Issa, Mr. Habib Al Mulla, is following up the investigation.
''The overriding principle of these investigations is the protection of (the) law, guaranteeing a fair and impartial trial for all persons involved. The investigation is being carried out with full transparency and according to the principle that all are treated equally before the law.
'''Justice will run its course,'' the official added, ''regardless of any external factors, with the United Arab Emirates taking responsibility for assuring adherence to the sovereignty of law and its enforcement on all living in the country.''
The videotape, reportedly from 2004, was leaked to the worldwide press about six weeks ago, after being smuggled out of the UAE in April and subsequently broadcast on US network ABC.
In a statement to ABC News at the time, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa, brother of crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed.
"The incidents depicted in the video tapes were not part of a pattern of behavior," the Interior Ministry's statement declared.
Purportedly ? Mistreating ? Are we refering to the same video I saw. Where I come from that is called torture. Unbelievable !!!! "In a statement to ABC News at the time, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa" They are already admitting his involvement.
While English lords in medieval times got away with murder and torture and everything, Arab merchants carried Islamic values of justice for all, and showed that justice is brought upon all even the son of the Khalifa of the Islamic empire. The nations of the World started taking from it to progress. Today it is in Arab muslim nations that Islamic values are most ignored. Like Rob said: "Purportedly ? Mistreating ? Are we refering to the same video I saw." What the hell is going on already?
The action taken by the top people in this country towards this incident assures me that UAE will remain a stable appealing country.
Omar, could you please enlighten me on what action has been taken that gives you such assurance. My understanding is that they are STILL "currently carrying out its investigation and engaging with those involved in the case in order to reach a clear understanding of all pertinent aspects and circumstances, and to ensure that justice is served according to the rule of law" Why does it take so long? Why not file charges and let the courts do their job......
