Abu Dhabi film company invests in Middle East stories

Imagenation Abu Dhabi creates new division focused on films based on regional content.

An Abu Dhabi film company announced on Sunday that it has created a new division focused on development, production and distribution of feature films and digital content based on Middle East stories.

Imagenation Abu Dhabi said it has allocated substantial funding toward the financing of projects across all genres and aims to set up an initial development slate of five to seven projects in 2009.

The company hopes the new scheme will allow it to develop relationships and collaborate with the best creative talent in the region to produce films that have both regional and global appeal.

"There are so many untold stories in the Middle East that have the potential to transcend borders and cross over to the global market, thus to educate and entertain audiences throughout the world,” said Edward Borgerding, chief executive officer of Imagenation Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Media Company.

“It is our mission to help that potential unfold,” he added.

Imagenation Abu Dhabi is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media Company, which was launched in September 2008.
