Abu Dhabi overtakes Dubai as Gulf's 'best airport'

Airports Council International survey rates global airports for customer service

Abu Dhabi overtakes Dubai as Gulf's 'best airport'

Abu Dhabi International Airport has overtaken Dubai as the best in the region for customer service, according to a global survey of passengers.

Dubai International Airport, the third busiest in the world, slipped to second place in the Airports Council International survey, while the Qatari capital Doha came third.

Abu Dhabi International Airport, which sees more than 12 million passengers each year, recorded the largest improvement in passenger satisfaction, scoring 4.4, up from 4.31 in 2011 when it was ranked second behind Dubai.

The airport particularly excelled in operational efficiency and quality of service categories, ACI said.

No Middle East airport was among the top worldwide.

The best airports per region were Cape Town (Africa), Seoul Incheon (Asia-Pacific), Moscow Sheremetyevo (Europe), Cancun (Latin-America-Caribbean), Abu Dhabi (Middle East) and Indianapolis (North America). ASQ removed the worldwide category this year.

The ASQ awards, introduced in 2006, have become the world’s leading airport passenger satisfaction benchmark, with 275 airports participating.
