Abu Dhabi police launch manhunt after American woman stabbed to death in mall

Abu Dhabi police launch manhunt after American woman stabbed to death in mall

Abu Dhabi Police have launched a manhunt after an American woman was stabbed to death in a mall toilet on Reem Island.

The victim died after suffering fatal injuries in a fight that took place on Monday afternoon inside the ladies public toilets of Boutique Mall on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, eyewitnesses said.

The injured woman was immediately rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where she succumbed to the wounds she sustained in the attack.

Investigations are still underway to identify the suspect’s identity and gender. Witnesses reported that the culprit was fully covered wearing an abaya, black gloves and face cover (Niqab), Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement.

According to Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, the victim, identified as A. B. R, 37, worked as a school teacher, was stabbed with a sharp tool, which was later confiscated by the police.

The cause of the fight that broke out in the women’s restroom remains unknown and the suspect fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.

“The police are investigating to uncover the crime’s causes and motives and to arrest the culprit,” Colonel Dr. Borshid was quoted as saying.

“The Community Police will be providing the children with shelter and other needs pending the arrival of their father (the victim’s ex-husband) from abroad. The father will be received by the Community Police, who will also cater to the needs of the victim’s family,” he added.

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid condemned the hideous crime and expressed his profound regret for such an objectionable phenomenon that is alien to the Emirati society and its deep-rooted traditions. “The Abu Dhabi Police will spare no effort in order to unveil this heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice,” he stressed.

The Ministry of Interior urged the public to call 8002626 to provide any information related to the circumstances and details of the case that may help the investigation efforts.

Perhaps this shows why some European countries choose to ban the full face cover. For security reasons indeed. We have camera's everywhere but they are useless unless faces are uncovered ...

Would you care to enlighten me how many crimes are committed in European countries that have not banned the face veil, by women who choose to wear it? Many thanks.

This is a truly hideous crime and being a parent i feel extremely sad for the children who wont be able to see their mom anymore. I am sure UAE police / authorities shall spare no efforts to catch this culprit and bring him/her to justice. :(

After watching the Video released by authority, it seems, Concerned security persons should be well investigate to get more information e.g. which car he/she may go or what whispered on entering the mall. Why not replay all security cams of lobby parking cams of that particular entry and exit timings to suspect and investigate the car owners that entetered or exited during that time. The criminal must be given sufficient punishment and why he/she did such a task.

from the video, it looks like the woman might be in her early sixties if we consider the way she walks. also since that american was a teacher may be there was an issue with one of the student she was teaching. it looks like the murder was planned cause somebody cant just walk with a knife in her handbag. in my opinion, there is a third person in that matter who has provided the information to the killer. somebody cant get killed in the restroom without any witness. maybe security has to check the surrounding of the restrooms and check who are the people who entered there.
like i just said, a third party is envolved. the victim was a teacher which means she was dealing with some parents. the investigation must start from there. from the student record we might find something that can help the police to arrest the murder. its a very sad situation. some people are misusing the hijab to commit atrocities.

@truthseeker and @veryworried, sorry to bother you'll, crime has no religion.
please do not mix religion with criminal acts.
Women in Islam are who veiling themselves to protect their modesty and being obedient to god. how would you justify banning veil for these women ?

@muriel, No this person who is in police custody (thanks to the brilliant police force in the UAE) was caught planting a bomb at the residence of a prominent American doctor in the UAE. There was no third party. The assailant waited one and half hours for a western woman to walk in the toilet to murder a western person. There were warnings on jihadists' website to murder Western teachers working in the UAE. Forget the drama, this was concerted by the assailant to kill western people in the UAE and this act will be taken very seriously in the UAE by competent authorities that will not stand for this type of violent agenda. Thank you to the UAE authorities!

why not ban the knieves and guns.....and also the bombs that most Western countries are so glad to sell/export.

Banning Face cover is the easiest thing.

SAM 5 years ago

Wearing a face cover did not prevent her capture within 24 hours. What if she was wearing a fake beard and a mustache; will these items be banned? Let law enforcement do their work and decide on how to ensure safety. They are doing an amazing job and should be congratulated.
