Abu Dhabi police release 'Reem Island Ghost' video footage

CCTV footage shows moments leading up to the stabbing of a US citizen in a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi police release 'Reem Island Ghost' video footage

Abu Dhabi police on Wednesday released a video showing the moments leading up to the stabbing of a US citizen in a mall in the UAE capital.

The 2 minute 30 second video, posted by police on YouTube, shows a suspect entering Boutique Mall in Reem Island on Monday, the day the woman was stabbed to death.

Watch the video here.

It shows the suspect, who is hidden under an abaya, black gloves and face cover (Niqab), entering the mall and leaving more than an hour and a half later.

The video comprises footage taken from security cameras in a basement car park and ground floor lobby.

The CCTV footage of the suspect, dubbed in a police statement as the Reem Island Ghost, stabbed a 37-year-old US kindergarten teacher on Monday afternoon on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi.

The assailant, whose gender is still to be identified, fled the scene following the altercation that took place inside the washroom of a shopping mall.

The Ministry of Interior has urged the public to call 8002626 to provide any information that may help the investigation.

The cause of the fight that broke out in the women’s restroom remains unknown.

The fact that he/she waited one and half hours in the toilet before attacking this US women indicates that this was a random act of violence against a foreigner. With four foreigners randomly killed in Saudi Arabia with links to ISIL, ISIL may have come to the UAE to continue their bloody rampage. I trust the UAE authorities will get to the bottom of this case, but with the dress this person wore, it may be difficult I would suspect and could already left the country. I really don't believe that this veiled person knew the victim, because how would they know that she would go to the toilet? It was a random act of violence and if there was a fight in the toilet, why would someone be carrying a large knife like this, so quite possibly the altercation was the victim fighting against her assailant. Maybe they need camera's in mall toilets now?

It is obvious that the assailant did not know the victim, because the assailant waited one and half hours to attack the victim - this was clearly a random act of violence. Secondly, the guard is key here because the assailant spoke to him, so voice tone and accent is very important. Was this a man or a woman? What was the accent? This was definately an empty mall at the time, note the parking lot. With four foreigners in recent days randomly killed in Saudi Arabia through the direction of ISIL, ISIL may have hit on UAE soil. The fact that at this point there are 231 likes is also alarming on this post.
