Computer vendor Acer is hoping to win over shoppers at GITEX this year with its new biometric-enabled laptops.

The vendor will be promoting its newest laptop range at the show, which comes complete with biometric-enabled security features.

"We wanted to offer something extraordinary, and by incorporating the latest in biometric security and cutting-edge technology, we want to provide a value-added product that will excite users," said Mark Prosser, product marketing manager, Mobility Products, Acer Computer.

The fingerprint recognition built on Acer's embedded TPM security subsystem features an integrated biometric fingerprint reader, providing a means to check an individual's true identity.

Prosser added that Acer hopes that the new innovation will help the firm consolidate its position as a market leader in notebooks.

"With the increased importance being placed on mobility products in the Middle East, we are clearly making a strategic move that should see us extend our lead in the notebooks sector," he said.
