UK is among top five most popular destinations served by Abu Dhabi International Airport
Passenger traffic from Abu Dhabi to the UK has surged by more than a third in the past year, according to figures from Abu Dhabi Airports.
The number of passengers to the UK grew by 34.2 percent, the company said on Sunday, attributing much of the increase to the Airbus A380 fleet operated by Etihad Airways.
Meanwhile, overall passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), increased by 17.4 percent over the past year, with a total of 21,174,603 travelling through the airport to date in 2015 compared to 18,031,259 in 2014.
Ahmad Al Haddabi, COO at Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Over the past year the number of seats available on flights between Abu Dhabi and the UK has increased by 53.1 percent.
“Many of these are on Etihad’s A380 services to London Heathrow, and the airline’s new route to Edinburgh, providing the capacity necessary to handle the increasing number of travelers coming to Abu Dhabi to experience the wonderful holiday destinations the emirate has to offer.”
There were 14,028 aircraft movements in November 2015, representing a 3.9 percent increase on the 13,501 movements that took place in November 2014, the company said.
Last month London, Bangkok, Doha, Delhi and Bombay were the top five routes from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
In October, Abu Dhabi International Airport registered a 13.6 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period last year, with 1,920,011 passengers using its terminals, and aircraft movements increased by 6.3 percent to 14,569 movements. For all the latest transport news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
