Al Futtaim to build TV station for Bahrain university

The $1m project will ensure that the University's media students get hands-on TV experience.

The University of Bahrain has contracted Al Futtaim and Sons, the sister company of Al Futtaim Panatech, to supply, install and integrate a full-fledged broadcast capable TV station and auditorium at its premises.

The $1million project will ensure that the university's media students get hands-on experience at a real TV station while the auditorium will serve as a multi-purpose audio-visual facility.

The studio will be equipped with Panasonic DVC Pro 50 - SD cameras based on a Digital Triax system. Other main systems include a Ross video switcher, a Pixel Power title machine, Trilogy's intercom system, the Evertz multi display system and Strand lighting. The auditorium will be fitted with Strand lighting and surround sound systems.

"We are doing the entire engineering, supply, design, installation and integration for the university," stated Hassan Ali, project sales manager of Al Futtaim Panatech.

The studio will initially be wired for three cameras, but there is ample room for further expansion to include as many as 10 cameras in the future, claimed Ali. The project will be handled by a 15-member team from Dubai. "Although we have a full fledged office in Bahrain, the broadcast team operates out of Dubai," Ali clarified.
