Joint venture is awarded contract to build St Regis Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
A joint venture between Al Habtoor and Murray & Roberts has been awarded a contract to build the St Regis Hotel and Residences on Saadiyat Island.
The project is the island’s flagship hotel and will be located close to the iconic Louvre and Guggenheim museums planned for the island.
Meanwhile, Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) announced that the British Museum will be involved in the development of Zayed National Museum, also to be located on Saadiyat.
The St Regis project includes a 380-room hotel, 259 residential apartments and 33 villas, as well as a shopping complex, health club and 1,600 parking spaces.
“It was easy to recognise the significance of the Saadiyat Island project, which is primarily what fuelled our interest in the opportunity,” said a spokesperson for the joint venture.
“We recognise the St Regis Hotel and Residences as a flagship project on Saadiyat Island and value the opportunity to collaborate in this resort with TDIC.
“This award shows the Abu Dhabi market remains buoyant and we are ideally placed to take advantage of the opportunities in this market.”
Al Habtoor has a 50 percent share of the joint venture and Murray & Roberts has the remaining 50 percent.
The joint venture counts among its previous projects, the Burj al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah’s Al Qasr hotel, and major expansion projects at both Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports.
