Al Naboodah is tipped to secure the contract for the second runway at Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB). The tenders for the contract, estimated at approximately US $272 million (AED 1 billion), are due to be issued in the first quarter of 2008.
According to Abdulla Al Falasi, DWC's marketing and corporate communications director, it makes sense to continue working with those contractors who are already involved in the project, providing they have the resources available.
"We are discussing it with them. I think for most companies, who are on site, there are benefits. Since they have started, it makes sense as we don't want to shift them. That is if they are ready and can handle it," he said.
Al Naboodah built the first of six runways at JXB, which is set to be the world's largest airport, and has been completed on time in the projected 600 days, and was constructed for $272 million.
The runway measures 4.5km and will be capable of handling every type of aircraft, including the A380. It is scheduled to be operational by mid-2009.construction news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
