Dubai's Al Wasl on Tuesday announced a complete overhaul of its stadium and pitch in preparation for new coach Diego Maradona's first season in charge.

The club, which signed the Argentinian legend on a two-year deal in May, said the changes were being made to "prepare for a monumental season".

"Al Wasl has announced a complete overhaul of its facilities in order to anticipate increased attention from the media, sporting enthusiasts and fans alike," the club said in a statement.

The main stadium will be transformed with the main pitch given a new foundation that adheres to FIFA standards, the club added.

Changes will also be made within the stadium, mainly to the seating areas of the fans and VIPs, with padded seating and revamped amenities to be added to accommodate an anticipated increase in fans.

A huge plasma display screen will also be installed to give fans a closer look at the pitch action.

The youth academy will also see some renovations to accommodate the increasing number of young candidates joining the club, Al Wasl said.

The media room is also being expanded as the club expects more press to attend games to hear the thoughts of Maradona.

Abdulla Al Bishr, director of corporate support at Al Wasl Club, said: "Ushering in a new era for the club, Al Wasl is continuously witnessing many changes, and we hope that the new feel will be appreciated by fans and players alike.

"Setting the stage for an exciting new season, the club is witnessing significant changes to make sure nothing is overlooked in our journey to be a rising star for football in the region."

All maintenance and renovation work is scheduled for completion before training starts in August, the club said.
