Alcatel-Lucent picks up GSM contract from Etisalat

Etisalat has awarded a mobile network expansion contract to telecommunication equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent.

Etisalat has awarded a mobile network expansion contract to telecommunication equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent.

The UAE telecom operator has selected the recently merged Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade and expand its mobile network in the UAE.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Alcatel-Lucent said the deployment would help Etisalat to create a more centralised and optimised GSM/EDGE network.

“This contract is the result of many years of faithful cooperation with Etisalat, and we are very proud of their continuing confidence towards Alcatel-Lucent,” Olivier Picard, president of Alcatel-Lucent Europe and South activities commented.

The GSM/EDGE equipment is a key asset for optimising large network deployments while enabling operators to reduce operating expenses and minimise capital expenditures, he added.
