The Sea -Me-We cable consortium has announced that it will upgrade its number 4 cable, to improve bandwidth for the region.

The contract for the upgrade, described as a multi-million dollar project, has been awarded to Alcatel-Lucent. The project includes upgrades to both sea and land-based sections of the cable, and is due for completion in 2009.
