AlMasria Universal Airlines, the first private Egyptian carrier to fly to Saudi Arabia, hopes to carry up to 450,000 travellers between the two countries in its first year of operation, the airline’s agent in Saudi said.

Prince Faisal bin Abdullah Al Faisal, chairman of al Faisaliah Aviation Co, said in an interview yesterday that AlMasria is targeting up to 15% of the estimated 3 million air travellers a year between the nations.

Egypt’s national carrier, Egypt Air, has been the only Egyptian airline flying between the countries.

The Saudi civil aviation authority said this month it plans to allow two other Egyptian private carriers to operate.
