Power generation firm Alstom has won a contract to supply two steam turbines to the M Station power and desalination plant in Jebel Ali.

The contract awarded by Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction will see the firm supply two turbines of 240MW capacity for the project. Siemens will provide gas turbines to the same project.

Doosan won the US$1.14 billion to build a thermal power plant for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in March. This was the second round of bidding for the M Station contract; the first round did not attract the minimum number of bids required by law for the contract to be awarded.

When complete M Station will produce 2,000MW of power and provide 105 million gallons of seawater per day. It is due to be operational by March 2010.
