Alves on the move to Al-Sadd from Middlesbrough

Brazilian forward swaps England’s Teeside for Qatari football club for undisclosed fee.

Brazilian striker Afonso Alves is on the move from English Championship side Middlesbrough to Qatari club Al-Sadd in a bid to resurrect his career.Goal.com reported on Saturday that Doha-based Al-Sadd has sealed a deal for the 28-year-old who scored just 4 goals in 31 appearances for 'Boro in the Premiership last season - a campaign that ultimately ended in the club's relegation from England’s elite.

Alves joined 'Boro for £12 million in January 2008 from Dutch club Heerenveen and scored six goals in his first 11 games before the end of his first Premier League season.

The striker, who went on to score 13 goals in 47 appearances for 'Boro, when cup competitions are factored in, has penned a three-year deal. "I am aiming to be at my top level here and score many goals," he said in a statement.
