Qatar’s biggest mall had “soft” launch on Saturday with less than 50% of shops open
Dubai-based fashion retailer Apparel Group has reportedly opened 30 new stores in Qatar’s largest shopping complex, Mall of Qatar.
The mall, which has 500,000 square metres of retail space, officially launched to the public on Saturday in a “soft opening” that saw 220 stores open their doors to shoppers.
“We are opening over 220 stores on our first day, which is 60 percent of the gross leasable area,” said Ahmed Al Mulla, CEO.
Gulf Times said Apparel Group had opened 30 shops as part of the soft opening. The group has more than 75 popular brands in its portfolio, including Skechers, Aldo, Tommy Hilfiger, and Tim Hortons & Cold Stone Creamery and new brands such as New Balance, Rituals, LC Waikiki and Ardene are among the stores.
The newspaper quoted Apparel Group chairman Nilesh Ved as saying: “We have expanded tremendously by reaching more than 1,450 stores across the GCC, and this year, almost 10 international brands were added to our portfolio.”
Mall of Qatar is spread over 5.4 million square feet with more than 500 retail shops. Officials said the mall is currently 99 percent leased, with 92 percent currently in the fit-out phase.
“The nation’s mall will be a jewel in Qatar’s National Vision 2030, offering visitors a wide selection for experiencing a shopping extravaganza,” Ved added.
