It's great news that Maktoob Group has launched the world?s first Arabic search engine — Araby.com.
My only question is: why has it taken so long?
There are millions of internet users across the Arab world, yet up until now there has been nothing in their language to cater to their needs.
Your magazine has often featured articles on the relatively low internet penetration rates in this region ? and the efforts by governments toget more citizens online.
I have no doubt that the presence of an Arabic search engine will considerably boost these efforts.
Maktoob Group hopes to attract considerable revenue from online advertising and I believe they will succeed in their efforts — this is a niche but lucrative market which will attract big audiences for potential advertisers.
