MSN Arabia overhauls key channels|~||~||~| Click here to view the Arabian Business/Accenture Web Index for December 2002"MSN Arabia was the hub of much online activity last month, as its popular Travel Channel was relaunched and the web site entered a partnership with autoemirates.com. The relaunch of the MSN Arabia Travel Channel is explained in depth elsewhere in this magazine (see page 87), but, in brief, the site has been given a new look and feel, deeper Arabic language functionality and now offers more travel products and services. The partnership with www.autoemirates.com allows MSN Arabia to provide online information on new cars and four wheel drive vehicles via its car channel. “Our partnership with www.autoemirates.com is a critical part of our core strategy to bring innovative and interesting contents to our visitors,” said Khaled Bichara, president and CEO. The car channel is updated daily with the developments in the regional and international auto markets.“Our association with MSN Arabia allows us to deliver focused information to automotive enthusiasts in the region. We believe that with this association, MSN Arabia car channel is the biggest source of online automotive information in the Middle East,” said Pankaj Dev, CEO, Auto Emirates. “Over 50 brands and their model offerings, totaling more than 350 models, are featured along with details of their technical information.”Elsewhere, the entertainment technology industry portal, etnow.com, has joined forces with the regional sound and lighting communications exhibition, Pro Audio Light Middle East (PALME), to launch a dedicated portal for the region’s entertainment technology industry. A number of industry-dedicated sites has been launched, which fall under the umbrella of etnow.com. The regional section, called etnow.com/middleeast, joins a growing list of portals covering geographical areas such as Australasia, Asia, the Americas, South Africa and Germany. “We are currently developing a series of world-wide linked web sites providing entertainment technology news, and an obvious route opened up for the Middle East with the launch of PALME in Dubai,” said John Offord at etnow.com. “The strength of etnow’s growing readership gives PALME reinforced event coverage, and the news generated through PALME will enable us to offer a unique insight into the regional market to our global readership.” The PALME exhibition takes place at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre on February 16-18, 2003.Another development this month is the surprise launch of yet another online recruitment site for the region. Jobdirection.com joins Bayt, Clarendon Parker and Gulfjobsites (see the Recruitment section of the main Web Index table) in the crowded e-recruitment scene. The site, launched by Gulf International Employment Services (GIES), aims to supply prospective employees to UAE and Gulf companies from a range of professional job sectors, including business, healthcare, media and the service industry. “Extensive research conducted by us prior to launching this portal showed that there was a great need for an inexpensive and easy to use online recruitment service that will benefit both employees and job-seekers,” said Yousef Al Ghareeb, managing director of Gulf International Employment Services. “It will help employers reach the most qualified candidates easily and speedily, give maximum exposure to the suitable candidates and implement services efficiently to the satisfaction of all parties involved in the process,” added Al Ghareeb. Employers will be able to post their job vacancies for free.
