If diamonds are a woman’s best friend, then Robert Mouawad must rank as one of the most popular men with the fairer sex in history. In the early 1970s, Mouawad made the decision to branch out from his family’s already successful heritage as luxury watchmakers to enter the world of fine jewellery. Along the way, he has collected and designed some of the finest diamonds on the planet - with many observers claiming his is the best private collection the world over. Those creations have adorned celebrities from Angelina Jolie to Gisele Bundchen. In November this year, Mouawad visited the Gulf to launch his first — and long-awaited - outlet in Dubai Mall. Further plans will include similar boutiques in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Kuwait.
Not content with his success on the jewellery front, Mouawad also has a stellar real estate portfolio. He owns properties such as the Hotel Vendomes in Paris and the world-famous Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, whose list of past visitors include Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill and Aristotle Onassis. Properties in Lebanon include the Roumieh Palace and several other building projects. Mouawad is also the founder of the Robert Mouawad Private Museum, a Beirut palace where visitors are “immediately carried back to the romantic epoch of oriental pomp and luxury”.
