Now in its fourth year, the Arabian Business StartUp Awards ceremony has earned a reputation for discovering some of the region’s most inspiring entrepreneurs.
Nominations are now open for the 2016 Arabian Business StartUp Awards, our annual event designed to celebrate the individuals and businesses who have made remarkable progress over the past year.
The gala dinner and awards ceremony, due to take place on Tuesday, 15 November, will identify and award some of the country’s finest entrepreneurs as well as some of their most active supporters.
The fourth Arabian Business StartUp Awards ceremony will also bring spotlight to the entrepreneurship-related projects of Expo 2020 Dubai, a series of initiatives aimed at uniting all relevant stakeholders behind a common goal – to help Expo 2020 Dubai leave a lasting legacy by delivering cutting-edge solutions.
The keynote speech of the ceremony will be delivered by Marjan Faraidooni, Vice President of Legacy for Expo 2020 Dubai.
Magnus Olsson, Mudassir Sheikha and Dr. Abdulla Elyas, co-founders of Careem, are to appear as our special guest speakers.
There are 16 categories to enter this year, including:
• Entrepreneur of the Year
• Young Entrepreneur of the Year
• Start Up of the Year
• SME Leader of the Year
• SME of the Year
• Mentor of the Year
• Intrapreneur of the Year
• New Media Start Up of the Year
• Social Enterprise of the Year
• Investor of the Year
• Influential Woman in Business Award
• Start Up Programme of the Year
• Incubator/Accelerator of the Year
• Funding Initiative of the Year
• SME Bank of the Year
• People’s Choice Award: Entrepreneur of the Year*
The nomination process will be open until Thursday, 29 September.

The top six finalists, in each award category, will be shortlisted by our editorial team.
The winners will be decided by the Arabian Business StartUp Awards 2016 judging panel, consisting of the following prominent figures of the region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem:
• Muna Al Gurg, director of retail at Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group and YAL Board Member
• Donna Benton, founder of The Entertainer
• Najla Al Midfa, general manager of Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre
• Prashant K. (PK) Gulati, founder of The Assembly, and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) president.
• Habib Haddad, CEO of Wamda
• Walid Akawi, CEO of ITP Publishing Group
All nominations will be judged on the following criteria:
• Business idea
• Market size
• Customer acceptance
• Management team
• Revenue model
• Long-term growth potential
For certain award categories, the Arabian Business StartUp Awards judging panel will assess and take into consideration the nominees’ contribution to their respective companies or to the MENA entrepreneurship ecosystem.
A number of entrepreneurs who have won our Entrepreneur of The Week accolade in the past year will compete for our newly-established People’s Choice Award: Entrepreneur of the Year.
The People’s Choice Award: Entrepreneur of the Year is a separate award that will be voted on by Arabian Business StartUp readers.
The voting period in this award category will be from 8am on Sunday, 16 October, to 8am on Sunday, 6 November.
The winner will be determined by the highest number of votes received.
