Embattled American singer R. Kelly will file a court motion requesting permission to travel to Dubai on a private jet to perform, according to ABC News.
Currently, Kelly is forbidden from traveling after a judge in his aggravated sexual abuse case ordered that he surrender his passport.
According to ABC News, the motion will reference three to five shows between April 17 and 19. His lawyer is expected to argue that Kelly’s profession requires him to travel outside the United States to earn him an income, which he needs to pay his living expenses, legal fees and child support.
The concerts appear to be private, however, with no promotion or announcement for any gigs in Dubai.
CBS News reported that he is “looking for work” in the emirate.
Kelly is currently facing ten counts of criminal sex abuse in Cook County – which includes Chicago – for allegedly abusing four women, of whom three were reportedly underage.
Last week, Kelly attorney Steve Greenberg told local media that the singer’s expenses were mounting as a result of his multiple legal issues.
“If you can’t play a show, if you can’t go out on tour, [and if] they’re not streaming your music anymore, obviously you’re going to have financial problems,” he said. For all the latest art news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
