Dr Daniel (Toby) Shephard is the Head of Medical Affairs for Takeda Pharmaceuticals in the ICMEA region, which includes India, Ukraine, CIS, the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. Toby is a specialist accredited pharmaceutical physician passionate about generating tangible value from an ethical medical standpoint. He is the true embodiment of Takeda-ism, with strong ethical values of integrity, fairness, honesty and perseverance that aid him when overseeing the medical affairs function throughout the region.
Toby has a longstanding commitment to deliver innovative medical solutions to transform the lives of patients, while implementing sound business processes to promote high-performing teams. Through his out-of-the-box approaches, Toby is able to establish truly aligned partnerships with internal partner business functions and external stakeholders to ensure holistic operations.
Toby comes with an established track record of expertise and building capabilities within medical affairs, and has assumed various leadership positions which make him a recognized and trusted medical leader in the global pharmaceutical field. His career has spanned over 20 years in various roles and regions which have taken him from medicine to pharmaceuticals; hospital physician to regional Head of Medical Affairs.
Before assuming his current role at Takeda, Toby was the Country Medical Head at Shire Pharmaceuticals in the UK & Ireland and a Senior Medical Director at Pfizer Consumer Health within the EMEA region. Toby has also held many roles at Boehringer Ingelheim, from Global Head of Consumer Healthcare Medicine in Germany, to Head of Medical and Scientific Affairs in the UK.
Toby holds a vast array of qualifications; he earned his Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees from the Imperial College, and more recently, his Executive International Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Hult International Business School, London.
