Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, President of American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) since 2011, has over 30 years instructional, research, and academic administration experience in universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Middle East.

Professor Al Alkim received his BA degree in Political Science from Seattle University, USA, in 1981, earning Magna Cum Laude honors. He joined the University of Exeter, UK, for his graduate studies where he successfully completed his MA and his Ph.D. in International Relations in 1986.

Professor Al Alkim joined the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in January 1982 as a teaching assistant before acquiring his Ph.D. From September 1986 to February 2012, he was a full time faculty member at UAEU. During his years at UAEU, Professor Al Alkim taught all International Relations courses, as well as some General Requirements offered by the Department of Political Science. Professor Al Alkim was appointed Head of Department of Political Science in 1995, and continued in that role until 1998.
