Shereen founded BALINCA with the mission to demystify finance for non-finance individuals, establishing it as a pioneering force in cultivating financial literacy and decision-making skills by utilising groundbreaking approaches that include games and simulations.
However, her journey in finance began at a tender age, rooted in a family tradition of financial responsibility and generational wealth management, which profoundly shaped her into a stalwart advocate for financial empowerment. Born and raised in Saudi Arabia in a family of four daughters, Shereen was instilled with the importance of financial stewardship by a father who insisted on the best possible education for his children, aiming for them to achieve financial independence. This upbringing laid the foundation for her remarkable career trajectory.
Shereen's early experiences, collaborating closely with her father in the family business and later branching into the financial sector, were pivotal. In 2000, she became one of the first women to work in banking in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in her career and for Saudi women in finance. Her tenure at Banque Saudi Fransi, coupled with an enriching experience as a summer associate at Deutsche Bank AG, honed her expertise in financial analysis, credit analysis, and investment banking.
