BA plans cabin upgrade and new routes

British Airways has revealed plans to revamp its Club World (business class) cabin across its entire fleet.

British Airways has revealed plans to revamp its Club World (business class) cabin across its entire fleet.

“We want the new cabin to be a surprise for both our customers and our competitors, but customers can look forward to improvements to the ‘world’s first flatbed’, which will result in a wider seat, complemented by a new cabin environment it terms of atmosphere and aesthetics,” said Paul Starrs, appointed area commercial manager, Middle East & Pakistan for BA on June 1.

“Customers will also have more control over their dining options, meaning they can plan their work and relaxation time on board the aircraft, according to their own needs.”

Club World passengers can therefore expect the seat width on BA’s flatbeds to exceed the current 20-inches.

“Following extensive research we have accounted for the fact that people turn in their sleep,” said a BA spokeswoman. “The new seat width will allow people to turn over comfortably.”

The revamp will be carried out on a plane-by-plane basis and the ground experience for Club World passengers will also get an overhaul.

BA has also increased frequencies on its Dubai-London route, from 14 to 17 weekly (as of October 31), operated by both 777 and 767 aircraft.

The UK flag carrier will also fly from London Heathrow to Calgary in Canada five times weekly from December 1.

Calgary is BA’s fourth Canadian destination out of London Heathrow.

“Calgary is the gateway to the Rockies and home to a burgeoning oil and gas industry,” said Starrs. “We see strong traffic emanating for this route out of the Middle East.”
