BAE denies knowledge of Swiss bribery probe

BAE says it is unaware of Swiss investigation in relation to Saudi deal.

BAE Systems Plc said it was not aware of a Swiss bribery probe after the UK's Sunday Times reported that the Swiss federal prosecutor had launched a criminal investigation into the arms manufacturer.

"We are not aware of an inquiry by the Swiss federal prosecutor's office and we have not been contacted by them," spokesman Scott Hailstone said.

British investigators abruptly halted a two-year corruption inquiry into BAE's $12 billion sale of fighter jets to Saudi Arabia last December, after the UK government warned the probe might threaten national security. BAE denied wrongdoing.

The Sunday Times said a report from the Swiss money-laundering authority had prompted an investigation into BAE, related to the Saudi deal.

The OECD has questioned the UK's decision to drop its investigation and recent media reports said the United States' Justice Department was concerned about BAE's dealings with Saudi Arabia.
