The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) is considering building a database of GCC businesswomen in an effort to encourage women to establish businesses in the region.

The matter is to be discussed at a meeting of the BCCI’s women’s committee today (Saturday) chaired by Mona Yousif Al Moayyed.

“The members of BCCI businesswomen committee will discuss the possibilities of establishing an electronic database under the umbrella of the GCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” a statement issued by the BCCI said.

The idea was first mooted at the first GCC Businesswomen’s Forum, held in Muscat last year.

The statement added that the meeting would also discuss the possibility of establishing a specialised committee to cater for the needs of the businesswomen across the region.

The meeting will underline the BCCI’s commitment to providing assistance to women for establishing small-and-medium sized businesses. The issue of establishing specialised training centres for GCC women and offering economic assistance to them for various projects is also on the agenda.
