Bahrain and Oman chambers of commerce are seeking to establish a joint business council to promote trade between the two nations, it has been reported.

The move came as the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chairman Dr Essam Fakhro welcomed Sultan Qaboos bin Said in Manama, Gulf Daily News reports.

The new panel will promote exports, the exchange of goods and services and promote investment partnerships, according to the report.

"We are confident that the visit will yield positive results, heralding new opportunities for fruitful co-operation," Dr Fakhro told the paper.

He also said he hoped the council would “bolster co-operation and boost investments in vital sectors," like agriculture, fisheries, healthcare and aluminium.
