Telecom operator to stop service from mid-March as industry continues shift towards mobile devices

Bahrain's Batelco says set to phase out landline SMS service

Telecom operator Batelco has announced the planned phase out of its fixed SMS service for landline customers.

The fixed SMS service available from landlines will no longer be available from mid-March in due to the industry shift towards mobile communications and the growing use of social media channels, the company said in a statement.

Batelco’s mobile SMS service, which is widely used, will continue to be available, it added.

"Thanks to Batelco’s superfast internet and highly reliable mobile services, both residential and business customers have access to numerous communication channels to meet all of their requirements," the company said in the statement.

It added that the fixed SMS services for landlines will be phased out by the middle of next month.
