Parliamentary committee want assurances that Bahrainis will not be affected by subsidy cuts
A Bahrain MP has proposed that local families should be limited to 400 litres of subsidised petrol per month.
The suggested cap was put forward by Ali Al Muqla, a member of the parliamentary committee studying the redirection of government subsidies, according to a report in Arabic daily Akhbar Al Khaleej.
He said the panel sought reassurances that Bahrainis will not be affected by the overall subsidy cuts policy.
He said there is agreement among committee members with the government on the removal of subsidies for electricity and water in March this year, which will eventually see prices double for expats and large companies in the industrial sector.
