Police arrest teen for throwing small homemade explosive device at embassy.
Police have arrested a Bahraini teenager for attacking the British Embassy with a small homemade explosive device, it has been reported.
The 17-year-old is said to have thrown the bomb at the embassy over growing tensions the embassy was interfering in Bahrain’s internal affairs, the Gulf Daily News reports.
The teen has been remanded in custody for two weeks while investigations are carried out, the Public Prosecution told the paper.
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa described the attack as "unacceptable”.
A British Embassy spokesman told the paper nobody had been injured in the attack.
He said the attack was thought to have been motivated by recent allegations involving British Ambassador Jamie Bowden.
"We cannot comment further on the incident, but we would once again like to reaffirm that Mr Bowden and the embassy do not interfere in Bahrain's domestic affairs,” he told the paper.
A petition has been drawn up by owners of 240 majlises demanding the expulsion of the British envoy.
