Batelco has signed a partnership deal with Microsoft to accelerate the growth of internet services in the Kingdom.
Bahrain’s monopoly telecoms operator, Batelco has partnered with Microsoft to develop a portfolio of internet and mobile related web services for consumers, businesses and government agencies. Both parties believe the deal will accelerate the growth of internet-based services in the Kingdom.“Our goal is to build a unique consumer and corporate user experience based on Microsoft .Net technologies through a portfolio of rich internet services across the boundaries of the individual Batelco divisions. Such experience will aim to build strong customer satisfaction,” comments Microsoft Middle East, managing director, Mohammed Kateeb.Although details about the agreement are vague, various mobile, internet and multimedia initiatives will be explored and resultant products & services introduced in Bahrain. Depending on market conditions these service could be then rolled out through Batelco’s business units around the Gulf."We believe the market knowledge, technical expertise and robust infrastructure of Batelco, coupled with the world leading software innovation and expertise of Microsoft is a truly unbeatable combination,” explains Batelco chief operating officer Samir Nooruddin.“It is too early for us to go into fine detail, but it is fair to say that we are very excited about the potential here. This could be a giant leap forward in Bahrain's development as an ‘intelligent Kingdom'. We aim to serve the consumer market and key business sectors, such as banking and finance,” he adds.
