Batelco Trade Union members will vote tomorrow (April 6) on taking industrial action against the operator.
The union has been in talks for months with the Bahraini operator over its demands for a 25% salary increase and improved retirement packages.
Although the union cancelled a planned demonstration at the end of February, chairman Maki Abbas said that talks since had not progressed satisfactorily, with a meeting this week between the two parties and the Ministry of Labour leading to "nothing achieved". He said last week the union was considering strike action.
Batelco said it was aware of the meeting but claimed talks were still ongoing. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
